Three years ago I was about to spend over £10,000 on increasing the insulation on one of my properties in Watford in order to adhere to Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) legislation. Simon happened to be in the area and said he would pop in that day as my builders were due to start work the next morning.

By the end of the day not only had Simon concluded that in fact the property would NOT reach an &; rating after adding the insulation, but came up with an alternative idea which ended up costing me £200, saving me a great deal of unnecessary work, time and money.

I needed an Epc done quickly for a flat let on a Victorian property in Watford

I was told by my estate agent they will get an Epc done on a Monday so I could relet my flat. The assessor from their organisation propcert came back with a TEXT to me at 6pm on a Thursday advising a 9.30am appointment on the Saturday ! I found this would NOT be ok for my tenant for a weekend appointment. I looked on Thursday for someone myself. Found Simon’s website as , the Epc Man for Watford . Reading his testimonials and checking his experience and credentials I was satisfied he was the right man to directly contact. I checked he’s part of Elmhurst Energy Systems Ltd who took over from Stroma Certification Ltd accreditation scheme and this also gave me confidence as this is a key thing to check when enlisting an assessor directly.

Simon gave me an appointment for the next day at midday , I was able to give my tenant sufficient notice therefore , as he came back to me immediately . He arrived on time , was friendly and seemed to know the block of flats I was in so the appointment was shorter than anticipated. I got my invoice sent the same evening and a reminder text the next day. Once I paid Simon I got a link sent straight away and he answered any questions I had post sending the certificate link. So overall a great service and after care. I would thoroughly recommend Simon Coombs to anyone. In April 2024 our gas boiler ceased working and we decided to look at other options for our heating and hot water. We needed an EPC certificate on our home of over 30 years to be able to apply for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Simon came to assess our home, and he was very professional and knowledgeable and whilst doing the EPC survey, Simon gave us the time to discuss any options for us to improve our home and also the options for the BUS Grant.
